Randolph Williamson Expands Services to Build Film and Entertainment Complexes

Atlanta-area firm completes latest phase at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, looks ahead to booming new business

ATLANTA (August 9, 2017) – Randolph Williamson has completed an additional six sound stages and 35,600 square feet of office and workshop space at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia. This latest portion of the multi-phased, 288-acre film and entertainment studio complex was delivered earlier this year. As general contractor for the largest studio complex in the U.S. outside of Hollywood, Pinewood Atlanta Studios has cast new opportunities for the local construction and real estate company based just South of Atlanta in Peachtree City.

In conjunction with the six sound stages, a 20,000-square-foot office building, two 6,800-square-foot office buildings and one 2,000-square-foot workshop were completed for the use of set construction, special effects, wardrobe and more. Randolph Williamson began construction on Pinewood Atlanta Studios in summer of 2013.

“Pinewood Atlanta Studios offers state-of-the-art technology that can only be found in the sound stages in Fayetteville,” said Mark Williamson, president of construction and CFO of Randolph Williamson. “The impressive complex has brought thousands of jobs to Fayette County, and with the addition of this latest phase, it will continue to do so. We’re proud to be a part of the continued growth and momentum.”

Pinewood Atlanta Studios currently consists of 18 sound stages, production offices, workshops and service provider space. The development is regarded as a world-class studio for the production of film, television, music, and video games and has already been completely leased out for the next five years. Pinewood Atlanta Studios opened in Georgia as part of the movie and television production boom that has transformed the state to be the top filming location in the world. Since its opening, the complex has been busy with major blockbuster productions like “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2” and “Passengers.”

The Georgia film incentive program, which offered over $600 million to production companies in 2016, is largely credited for the influx of movie and TV productions. And, several Georgia-based companies, including Randolph Williamson, have aggressively expanded their service offerings to become experts in the film and entertainment industry.

“Before becoming general contractor for this project, we had never built facilities like these, but I had faith in our team’s expertise to efficiently learn and deliver,” Williamson said. “The experience and expertise gained in building Pinewood Atlanta Studios has allowed our company to gain additional work in the film and entertainment sector.”

Due to the success of Pinewood Atlanta Studios, another film studio has been proposed to join Fayette County, just minutes away from Pinewood. Cinema South Studios is a 24-acre, six stage complex planned with a tentative completion date of December 2019.

Williamson added, “It’s an exciting time to be in Georgia, especially if your business is able to stay nimble and quickly expand its offerings to serve the booming film and entertainment industry. We look forward to more exciting opportunities in the pipeline.”
