Growing sound stage complex is now the largest in U.S. outside Hollywood
About 25 miles south of downtown Atlanta, Fayette County’s Pinewood Studios has morphed within a few years from rural land into the largest U.S. studio complex outside Hollywood.
This week, the completion of six additional sound stages, plus another 35,600 square feet of workshop and office space, was announced.
Pinewood now includes 18 sound stages across a campus about the size of Chastain Park—so large it requires a private Home Depot, which opened in 2014.
The development has emerged, officials say, as a world-class hub for making movies, television, music, and video games.
Recent movies to use Pinewood include “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2,” and “Passengers,” per a press release.
“Pinewood Atlanta Studios offers state-of-the-art technology that can only be found in the sound stages in Fayetteville,” said Mark Williamson, president of construction and CFO of Randolph Williamson, a Peachtree City real estate company and Pinewood’s general contractor since work began in 2013.
Next door to the studio, a sprawling mixed-use venture called Pinewood Forrest is moving forward, where cottages will start at $375,000 and larger estate homes will command north of $1 million.
That project broke ground this spring and is expected to eventually offer more than 1,300 multifamily flats and houses.
Meanwhile, the success of Pinewood Studios is spawning another Fayette County film studio down the road. The 24-acre, six-stage Cinema South is expected to finish in December 2019, officials with Randolph Williamson said this week.
